Punish Slander and Libel​

The people of Democracy Craft, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Defamation Act 2020”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) The Slander Act will be made nulled/removed.
2 - Defamation
(1) A false and unprivileged statement of fact that can negatively impact someone's reputation.
(2) It can either be libel or slander, and can be taken to court.

3 - Slander
(1) Slander is a false statement which defames another person.
(2) In the form of spoken communication. For Minecraft purposes and realism we include regular Minecraft text in the server (General Chat) and discord chat as spoken communication.

4. Libel
(1) A published false statement that is damaging to a person’s reputation
(2) Usually in the form of a document, sign, newspaper or other physical communication.

5 - Suing
(1) A person may sue for defamation, however, damages from slander and libel are not presumed and must be proven in a court of law.
(2) On Top of proving harm, the Plaintiff must present evidence for intent to harm reputation.


6 - Exemptions Under This Law (1) This legislation shall not be interpreted to extend to election polling. Polling and other forms of asking questions (published) are exempt from libel.

7 - Punishment
(1) The defendant, if proven to have purposefully defamed, will be issued to pay the victim compensation of no less than $50 at the discretion of the court.

(2) The judge will use the evidence given for defamation to determine the amount of compensation the entity has to pay the victim.
