Protect citizens of Redmont

The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment

(1) This Act may be cited as the “Contempt of Court Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) This Bill was authored by Representative pugbandit.

2 - Reasons

(1) Contempt of Court is technically not illegal.

3 - Terms

(1) Contempt of Court is act of speaking in a court case when not involved or summoned to provide testimony.
(2) There is a punishment system of:
First Offence: $20 Fine​
Second Offence: $60 Fine​
Third Offence: $60 Fine + 10 Minutes Jail.​

Amend the Judicial Standards Act​

The people of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Contempt Amendment Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage and when the Judicial Standards Act becomes law.

2 - Reasons
(1) Failure to appear is only applied to congressional subpona power, and there is no punishment that can be issued by the court for failing to comply with a summons.
(2) IRL you can be fined for not showing up to your court date.
(3) The current system is broken as there is no fine for not showing up to court.

3 - Amendment
(1) Changes the definition of "Contempt of Court" in section 17 of the JSA from "the act of speaking in a court case when not involved or summoned to provide testimony." to "the act of speaking in a court case when not involved or summoned to provide testimony, the failure to respond to a summons issued by the court, and or the violation of court procedure."
