A
BILL
To
Clarify and Protect Civil Liberties During a Purge
The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:
1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Enable the Purge Act"
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) This Act is authored by President Westray in conjunction with a recently community poll supporting a purge.
(4) This Act is co-sponsored by MilkCrack
2 - Purpose
(1) In the past, there was a now-dismissed case over the enactment of a purge without existing statute law to enable it.
(2) In the past, the executive utilized a legally questionable concept of pardoning everyone at once in order to execute the purge.
(3) This bill serves to establish the purge as a legal and constitutional event.
(4) As evidenced in purge movies, the dates in March are where the purge generally happens. In order to have a consistent day year round, clause 3.1.a prevents congress from interfering with the date. However for other days in the year, congress would need to approve.
3 - Enactment of a Purge
(1) The government may order the temporary withdrawal of the enforcement of certain laws at the discretion of the executive branch through the following processes;
(a) Any time between the days of March 20 to March 23 without congressional approval.
(b) Any time that is not between the days of March 20 to March 23 with congressional approval.
