Establish a Redmont Office of Ethics
The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives and Senators in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

Establish a Redmont Office of Ethics
The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives and Senators in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:
1 - Short Title and Enactment
- This Act may be cited as the “Ethics Commission Act”.
- This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage,

2 - Reasons
- Whereas public trust in Government is at a low,
- Whereas Congress cannot and should not always be the final voice on issues related to ethical behavior and,
- Whereas the line between the illegal and legal is clearly defined, but the line between Ethical and unethical is much more blurred.
3 - Terms
- Ethics Commission: works to prevent conflicts between private interests and the public duties of appointed and elected officials.
4 - The Office of the Ethics Commission
- The Ethics Commission shall be made up of three (3) individuals of upstanding Public Service, legal or business backgrounds.
- These individuals shall be appointed by the President to serve a six (6) month term, and shall be confirmed by the Senate.
- These individuals shall not be members of the Cabinet or the Congress.
- Once confirmed, the members of the commission shall decide amongst themselves who to name as the “Ethics Commissioner”.
- The “Ethics Commissioner” shall act as the public spokesperson for the commission as a whole.
- The Ethics Commission shall work together in their investigation and deliberation of the Ethics of an individual.
- Once said investigation and deliberation is complete, the Ethics Commission shall release a public report with their findings on the Ethical implications of their investigation.
5 - The process for engaging the Ethics Commission
- The Ethics Commission shall be engaged at the request of Congressional Committees to investigate further the Ethical implications of the acts in which the committee have been exploring.
- The Ethics Commission shall be engaged by a majority vote in either the House or Senate to investigate the Ethics of a member of Congress or Staffer to Congress.
6 - The pay of the Commission
- The Commission members shall receive two-hundred fifty dollars each at the end of their inquiry.
- These funds will be allocated from the Congress.
7- The final report by the Ethics Commission
- The Commission shall release a final report detailing the ethical implications of the issue at hand.
- The commission may choose to or to not make recommendations at the end of the report on repercussions they may see fit.
- Repercussions recommended may be:
- A vote of censure, or removal.
- Consideration of a legal charge.
- A public acknowledgement or apology.
