Amend the Constitution

The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment

(1) This Act may be cited as the “Impeachment Amendment”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) This Bill was authored by Representative Icypenguin79.

2 - Reasons

(1) Resigning before impeachment is a loophole that should be closed.

3 - Terms

(1) Under Section 1, Powers of the House of Representatives, “Can impeach government officials” is amended to read “Can impeach government officials and ex-government officials if the actions that led to impeachment happened while in office.”

This bill is hereby vetoed.
Reasoning:
  • The purpose of Impeachment is to remove government officials from Office, if they have already resigned they are no longer in the office, therefore the purpose of impeachment is gone.
  • If you believe someone committed illegal activity while in a government office, It is the role of the court to preside over that not congress and that is the only purpose I could see to this bill.
