BILL
To
Establish orders of merit to honor the nation’s finest citizens
The people of Democracy Craft, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:
1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Orders of Merit Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) The Act has been co-sponsored by: Representative xEndeavour
2 - Reasons
Currently, we are limited to presidential and congressional commendations for honoring citizens. Presidential commendations are highly limited in the amount that can be awarded and congressional commendations are rarely issued. Meanwhile, many nations IRL have orders of merit to award their citizens a title for various public goods. It is time for Redmont to do the same. This doesn’t replace existing medals/awards but it adds on.
3 - Orders of Merit
(1) An order of merit is a group of citizens who have been honored for certain contributions to the nation and are entitled to the ceremonial post-nominal title of the order. Membership in an order of merit is purely ceremonial.
(2) Each honour and award will have a legislated sponsor, who has the sole power to award or rescind the patronage of an honour and award.
4 - Order of Redmont
(1) Post Nominal: OR
(2) Order of Precedence: 1
(3) Sponsor: President (limited to 10 per presidential term)
(3) Awarded for: The Order of Redmont recognises citizens who have demonstrated distinguished service or exceptional achievement in any particular area.
4 - Congressional Medal
(1) Post Nominal: N/A
(2) Order of Precedence: 2
(3) Sponsor: Congress (Motion, Supermajority in both chambers)
(3) Awarded for: Contributions of significance to the nation.
5 - Presidential Commendation
(1) Post Nominal: N/A
(2) Order of Precedence: 3
(3) Sponsor: President (limited to 3 per presidential term)
(3) Awarded for: Exceptional achievement and or outstanding service to the community.
(3) Congress has the power to establish or disestablish orders of merit through amendments to this Act.
(4) Orders of merit shall be established with a name for the order, a ceremonial post-nominal title for its members, guidance for what contributions would lead someone to deserve this order, and a placement in the order of precedence.
6 - Recognition
(1) All members of the Order of Redmont shall be listed in the Congressional Library (on forums) and inside the Redmont National Museum (in-game).
