BILL
To
Create a Fairer Senate Elections Process
BILL
To
Create a Fairer Senate Elections Process
The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected Representatives and Senators in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:
1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Senate Election Repair Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
(3) Authored by hugebob23456.
(4) Co-Sponsored by awwwimnicki and Bubba_Tea_.
2 - Reasons
(1) In a first past the post system where citizens have only one vote, vote can change the outcome of the elections. This is not reflective of the will of the people. A beautiful example of this is the September 2021 Senate Elections, in which the NPR and ICP tied in their vote totals but the NPR candidates had a greater split, resulting in the ICP getting 2 Senate seats and the NPR getting 1. By granting voters a number of votes equal to the number of seats being contested, we are able to eliminate the strategy in voting and better reflect the will of the people.
(2) Voters are not obligated to cast all of their votes if they do not wish.
3 - Terms
(1) Amendment of the Electoral Act (Act of Congress - Electoral Act)
(a) “(7) All citizens eligible to vote shall be granted one vote.”
Changes to:
“(7) All citizens eligible to vote shall be granted one vote for House of Representatives elections, one vote for Presidential elections, and one vote per seat being contested for Senate elections.”
