Ensure Fair Conduct Regarding Congressional Compensation

The people of Democracy Craft, through their elected Representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:

1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Congressional Wage Reform Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately after signage.
(3) Authored by Representative 218218Consumer

2 - Reasons for Proposal
(1) Members of Congress should not have the ability to increase their own wages preceding the next regular election: this reduces accountability in the government and eases the process by which a Representative or Senator, given that they have the support of a majority of their colleagues, may act in selfish monetary gain. By only allowing wage increases to take effect after elections, voters have a chance to remove members of Congress responsible for self-interested misuses of public funds.
(2) Providing the Speaker of the House with the unilateral ability to allocate bonuses to their Congressional colleagues guarantees horrifying possibilities of corruption. Concurrently, it facilitates potential bribery in fulfillment of political motives. This must be changed to ensure that bonuses are distributed fairly, honestly, and only with the consensus of a majority of Congress.

3 - Wage Reform
Any legislative change in the wages of members of the House, barring an absolute decrease, may only apply to the next Congress following the next regular election. For example, if Congress were to increase its wages by $10/15 minutes in October 2020, such an increase could only take effect following the November 2020 election during a new term.

4 - Bonus Approval
All bonuses issued to Representatives or Senators, which shall be proposed by the Speaker of Congress, must obtain approval with a simple majority in both the House and Senate.
