To
Reform and Protect Unions
The people of the Commonwealth of Redmont, through their elected representatives in the Congress and the force of law ordained to that Congress by the people through the constitution, do hereby enact the following provisions into law:
1 - Short Title and Enactment
(1) This Act may be cited as the “Union Reform Act”.
(2) This Act shall be enacted immediately upon its signage.
2 - Purpose
(1) As it stands, employers may engage in activities to disrupt or silence worker unions.
(2) Very few unions have been established, especially in relation to department employees.
(3) This bill establishes protections for workers involved in and forming unions.
(4) This bill also establishes a Collective Employee Union for department employees, to address the lack of department employee protection.
3 - Union Creation
(1) This act defines “Union” as an organized association of workers formed to protect and advance their rights and interests.
(2) Every employee in Redmont has the right to create or apply to register their own union.
(3) Unions do not have to follow a democratic structure, but are encouraged to.
(4) The DEC will maintain a facilitated union registration program.
4 - Collective Employee Union
(1) The Government will establish a Collective Employee Union, still noting that employees may still start their own union specific to their job.
(2) The Collective Employee Union will consist of all jobs in the Departments.
(3) All Employees, from Tour Guides, to Medical Specialists, to Rangers, to any other Department job, will be automatically enrolled into the Collective Employee Union as a member. However, they may choose to opt-out of the union if they wish to do so.
(4) The Collective Employee Union will follow a democratic structure, including;
(a) Union Elections held by an Electoral Officer.
(b) Union Leader elected every 2 months.
(c) Union Representatives elected internally in each Department, every 2 months.
(5) The roles of the Collective Employee Union shall be:
(a) The Union Leader shall manage the votes and ensure the proper usage of the board.
(b) Union Representatives shall vote on union by-laws and provisions.
5 - Union Member Protections
(1) Employers are prohibited from discriminating against an employee for being involved in a union.
(2) Employers are prohibited from involving themselves in the democratic processes of their employee's union.
(3) Employers who take action to disrupt or prevent the formation of a union, and or engage in conduct to dismantle a union, such as, but not limited to, terminating employees who try to start a union, shall be guilty of Union Busting, as defined:
